Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
** Reviews, manages, and processes complex current planning requests/projects in conformance with the Comprehensive Plan, Unified Development Code, and other adopted plans, studies, and development standards.
* Researches, interprets and explains codes and ordinance applications to specific projects, properties, or situations.
* Reviews and manages project applications to ensure that proposals meet City development standards.
* Responsible for identifying plat, site plan, and cases of other related application types that may require immediate or distinct attention. Responsible for reviewing these cases and guiding them to a final decision. This may include cases with unique intersections with City Code, unique physical or regulatory characteristics, or cases that simply have struggled to achieve an end result.
* Provides case management for more complex development project applications, including zoning, subdivision, comprehensive plan amendments, site plans, and other applications that require a higher level of review and management.
* Coordinates communication between applicant, City, and County departments for review comments; provides recommendations on how to address review comments.
* Prepares written reports and makes presentations to boards, commissions, committees, and the City Council.
* Provides technical support to boards, commissions and committees, and other special call meetings.
* Responds to complex questions from citizens, management, City officials, and others, and provides assistance.
* Oversees the preparation and reproduction of publications and educational materials issued by the Department.
* Plans, organizes and conducts neighborhood meetings, training sessions, and other outreach efforts. Speaks as City representative before public groups.
* Assists with special projects related to code revisions, manual updates, process review, and research to discover patterns and/or discrepancies.
* Supervises, trains and evaluates assigned staff members.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
* Assists with long-range planning and historic preservation efforts, as needed.
* Provides direct professional support to the Assistant Director
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

**** Education, training and Experience Guidelines
** Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Planning, Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a planning-related field. Five (5) years of full-time professional work experience in municipal planning. Two (2) years of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.

A Master’s degree in a planning-related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

*** Advanced knowledge of planning principles and practices used in all phases of urban planning.
* Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances regarding planning and zoning.
