Position Description

Trimmer D/4th Class – Under supervision, maintains trees for public safety. Provides tree trimming by pruning, cutting, removing, and caring for trees. May be exposed to hazards of working near traffic, falling limbs, and energized power lines. Requires attention to detail and adherence to safety guidelines. Receives on-the-job training and day‑to‑day directions. This is the entry‑level class.

Trimmer C/3rd Class – Under supervision, maintains trees for public safety. Mid‑level class with the same duties as D/4th but with higher responsibility.

Trimmer B/2nd Class – Mid‑level class receiving on‑the‑job training, specific day‑to‑day directions, and crew supervision.

Trimmer A/1st Class – Top‑level class providing supervision, leading the crew, and serving as lead in the Foreperson’s absence.

• Performs tree pruning, tree removal, brush chipping, and stump grinding
• Uses climbing hooks, belts, ropes, and ladders
• Operates and services equipment and tools such as hydraulic tools, power tools, buckets, chippers, and sprayers
• Cuts away dead and excess branches from trees
• Sprays to treat diseased or unhealthy trees, including mixing chemicals and calibrating spray equipment
• Duties may change with or without notice

• Assists with providing training to other trimmers

• Provides training to other trimmers

• Understand occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Semi‑skilled in mechanics
• Can complete a proficiency test in climbing, knot tying, and chainsaw maintenance
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record per company requirements
• May be required to pass a DOT physical exam to obtain the appropriate CDL
• Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities

• Meet all physical requirements of the position
• Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by company policy and, if applicable, DOT regulations
• 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required
• Legally authorized to work in the United States

• Experience with tree care/maintenance programs including operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree‑related equipment
