Job Title: Lower School Media Specialist
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Lower School Principal
OverviewThis full-time, ten (10) month position. The Lower School Media Specialist is responsible for serving as the primary steward of the library collection, fostering literacy, collaborating with faculty to support the K4-5th grade curriculum, and managing the full scope of library operations. A commitment to excellence and unparalleled customer service is expected of all Hebron employees.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in subject area or related field
- LMS or SLMS is preferred from an accredited institution
- Acknowledges Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

- Proficient in Google or related software.
- Responsible for vetting library materials and curating a collection that reflects the core values of Hebron Christian Academy.
- Responsible for processing new books into the current collection: apply our HCA specific genre spine labels/making a matching marc record in our software sys.
- Maintains a clean and neat environment that is organized and user friendly.
- Operates circulation software (Mackin Vision) to check in/out or renew books.
- Weeds/deletes damaged/out-of-date materials that do not meet our criteria.
- Repairs/salvages current book bindings using the cover-one machine for books.
- Advises LS Principal on library needs and keeps her informed.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers to pull books supporting curriculum needs.
- Teaches library skills classes: book care, book genres, book location, etc.
- Manages library accounts and stays on top of students with lost/late books. Submits charges to the business office at the EOY for unreturned items.
- Performs an inventory assessment 1-2 times per school year.
- Organizes volunteers to assist with circulation desk management and shelving.
- Coordinates an annual book fair that excites readers and raises additional funds.
- Launches monthly choice boards for school wide digital reading opportunities.
- Promotes a love of literacy by curating a relevant collection, reading inspiring books that teach or entertain, and using creative lessons to motivate readers. Ex:
Library VIP, Guess Who is Reading?, You’ve Been Book’d, book clubs, etc. - Responsible for a summer reading plan/reward system to keep our readers engaged over the summer.
- Teaches weekly literacy lessons to K4-5th grade students.

Physical Requirements- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
