Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Principal and CTAE Director, the teacher develops students’ skills and competence in one or more areas of agricultural education, including but not limited to Plant Science, Animal Science, Vet Science, Agriscience, Forest Science, and Natural Resources Management. The teacher also develops students’ problem‑solving abilities, encourages progress, manages an effective learning environment, models enthusiasm for agricultural education, and demonstrates current innovations in the agricultural industry, including global competition.
EssentialFunctions
- Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more Agricultural pathways within the Agriculture Science Career Cluster, in accordance with LCSS curriculum standards.
- Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
- Promotes a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences that challenge students and utilize instructional time efficiently.
- Sponsors and infuses co‑curricular Future Farmers of America (FFA) Career Tech Student Organization (CTSO) experiences for leadership development, advanced technical skill attainment, workforce readiness, and college career‑readiness.
- Participates in, supports, and promotes fund‑raising efforts benefiting ag students and/or CTAE program(s).
- Develops and maintains relationships/partnerships with individuals and businesses in the local and regional agriculture community.
- Instructs students in the proper use and care of program equipment, as well as plant and animal life.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs, and performs individual and small‑group instruction as needed.
- Maintains familiarity with LCSS and End of Pathway Assessments (EOPA) to adapt curriculum for maximum student achievement.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by LCSS procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate resources, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, CTAE Director, and other central office administrators.
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and telephone, as well as equipment specific to CTAE program goals and standards, especially those pertaining to agriculture education.
- Travels to school system buildings, local and regional professional meetings, and curriculum‑related competitions as required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Works in standard office and school building environments and in an Agricultural Education setting.
- State certification as an Agriculture Teacher or as required for the position.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment preferred.
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
