POLICE DETECTIVE – City of South Fulton
Base pay range
: $69,942.60 per year
- Enforces all applicable codes, ordinances, laws and regulations to protect life and property, prevent crime, and promote security.
- Investigates crimes such as financial, vice, homicide, abduction, missing persons, juvenile, child abuse/neglect, elder abuse, drug, auto theft, property, robbery, assault, gang‑related, or other crimes; conducts surveillance and undercover operations; coordinates activities with other law enforcement agencies.
- Secures crime scenes, examines for clues, evidence, and latent fingerprints; photographs and diagrams scenes; collects, evaluates, tests, records, and preserves evidence; maintains control and chain‑of‑custody and escorts evidence to laboratories.
- Identifies potential witnesses and suspects; interviews victims, complainants, witnesses, and suspects; advises victims or parties of their rights; obtains statements and verifies their truth/accuracy.
- Obtains search warrants; conducts searches of premises, property, or persons; seizes property as appropriate.
- Documents investigative information; prepares detailed case reports and records; reviews/evaluates crime reports; compiles, maintains, and reviews statistical data; performs research; reviews laws for application.
- Determines sufficient evidence for arrest; prepares/presents photo lineups; obtains arrest warrants and makes arrests; advises suspects of their rights.
- Participates in court activities; prepares cases for prosecution; meets with state/City attorneys; testifies in judicial proceedings.
- Inspects and operates assigned police vehicle, uniform, weapons, and equipment.
- Follows safety procedures, uses safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and others.
- Processes documentation related to department/division operations within designated time frames and established procedures; prepares and maintains various forms, reports, correspondences, and logs.
• High school diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years of law enforcement experience.
• Basic Law Enforcement certification.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
Tasks require moderate physical effort involving stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 20 pounds. Sensory requirements include distinguishing colors, sounds, visual cues, and communicating orally. Environmental factors may include exposure to dust, pollen, odors, humidity, rain, fumes, extreme temperatures, bright/dim lights, and hazardous materials.
