Base pay range

$12.00/hr - $13.00/hr

Location: Mount Vernon, GA / Montgomery County

The Community Service Board of Middle Georgia’s Jail‑in‑Reach department is seeking a qualified individual to serve as our next Peer Support Worker. This person will be responsible for providing recovery support services to people that self‑identify as being in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders. The role upholds the culture, principles, and values of recovery in all aspects of services provided to individuals, family members, friends, and allies.

The worker will connect clients to local recovery communities within the ARSC and to treatment and recovery support services outside of the ARSC. Travel within the assigned service area is required.

Responsibilities of the Peer Support Worker
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive records in accordance with team leadership guidance, including ASO submissions.
  • Provides peer support to persons who have experienced challenges with substance use or misuse in ARSC.
  • Provides information and facilitates the development of relationships with individuals, support/mutual aid groups, and service providers when appropriate.
  • Follows up when peers agree with a care plan, manages boundaries in relationships, and makes adjustments in accordance with guidance from team leadership.
  • Provides support to families and allies of people that self‑identify as being in recovery or who have challenges with substance use.
  • Supplies peers with information and education regarding the recovery process.
  • Exemplifies CARES values and uplifts a spirit of recovery with peers, team members, and community members.
  • Leads various afternoon, night, and individual group or individual peer sessions as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Must obtain the Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES) Certification within one (1) year of employment, per DBHDD requirement, and maintain certification by completing the required twelve (12) continuing education units each year that includes one CARES Connect per year.
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Office Products.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • In long‑term recovery from substance use, preferably with a behavioral health diagnosis.

Final pay rate will be dependent on a combination of qualifications such as experience and education.
