Paralegal / Litigation Assistant / Investigator – Insurance Defense [St. Simons, Georgia Office]
McLain & Merritt’s General Liability Litigation practice group is seeking a Paralegal/Litigation Assistant/Investigator for a full‑time position in our St. Simons, Georgia office. We represent some of the largest retailers in Georgia in premises liability lawsuits and other tort/personal injury litigation. This multifaceted role will handle a wide variety of duties.
Responsibilities- Prepare legal documents, conduct legal research, review documents, and manage scheduling and calendar systems while maintaining clear communication with clients and attorneys.
- Support attorneys through all stages of litigation and manage case files.
- Conduct factual investigations that include interviewing witnesses, performing site visits, collecting and analyzing evidence, researching witnesses/parties, securing attendance of witnesses, and reporting findings orally and in writing; assist with trial preparation and trial proceedings.
- Experience in retail work and understanding of that business is a plus.
- Substantial experience, training, and education related to investigation, court, litigation support, case development, and/or law enforcement.
- Flexibility and drive to travel regularly throughout Georgia (and occasionally beyond); overnight stays are rare.
- Computer and technology skills and experience.
- Excellent ability to draft reports and documents supporting litigation, including audio and visual exhibits.
- Knowledge of law and legal document preparation.
- Proficiency in conducting legal research and document review.
- Detail‑oriented and highly organized.
- Experience in insurance defense is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
- From $65,000 and higher, depending on experience and qualifications.
