OverviewPositively impact the lives of youth in the care of the Department of Juvenile Justice by collaboratively creating and maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment. Provide support, guidance, and structure for detained youth by modeling, encouraging, and reinforcing pro-social behaviors including patience, empathy, cooperation, professionalism, and respect.
Responsibilities- Assume responsibility for the custody, security, and care of youth by following policies and standard operating procedures of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
- Provide direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth emphasizing safety, personal conduct, care, and rehabilitation.
- Perform security duties, including contraband searches, security counts, supervision of assigned youth in housing units and classroom areas, and checks of various facility areas.
- Maintain order and discipline by intervening with youth through active supervision and controlling inappropriate behavior to preserve a safe environment.
- Supervise the movement and transition of youth within and outside the facility, during transit to and from other facilities, and during temporary leave.
- Promote adaptive behavior development through positive reinforcement, effective redirection, verbal coaching, and active modeling of desired behaviors.
- Screen visitors and staff at entry points to control contraband and prevent unauthorized access.
- Utilize security equipment and technology to support the safety and well‑being of youth served in facilities.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must obtain and maintain Georgia State P.O.S.T. certification within six (6) months of employment.
