School Nurse Substitute
RETIREMENT:
Teacher Retirement System of Georgia (not applicable for part-time position)

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with
provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations of personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
R.N. or L.P.N. License
REPORTS TO:
Principal
JOB GOAL:
To provide limited, immediate short term care to students with an
injury or illness until parents or designated persons can be
notified and assume responsibility for the sick or injured student,
maintain health records and emergency information on students
in the school. All nursing actions will be in accordance with the
scope and practice of the Georgia Board of Nursing and Gilmer
County Board of Education policies.
Performance Responsibilities
- Maintain medical supplies in the clinic.
- Keep a clean and orderly clinic.
- Keep accurate, updated health information on students school wide targeting students
illnesses.
- Assist in collecting information for and the development of individual Health Care Plans or Section 504 plans for students with medical needs.
- Trains staff members on the implementation of Health Care Plans or Section 504 Plans for students in their care.
- Assist in identifying needs for health education opportunities.
- Dispense medication in accordance with guidelines.
- Assess situations and render care to students
- Maintain the dignity, privacy and confidentiality of students.
- Keep a daily log of all clinic visits, medications dispensed, and actions taken.
- Follow school policy about contacting parents and releasing students.
- Report communicable diseases to principal.
- Consult with administrator about the specific actions to be taken in the event of a health
- Conduct vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings.
- Observe Universal precautions and train staff members in proper Universal Precaution
- Properly dispose of biohazardous materials, sharp items, and unused medications
(O.S.H.A.).
- Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the
- Review current developments, literature, and technical source information related to the job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws as well as Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
