About The Role
The OR RN PACU – PT days role is critical in providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical procedures. This position focuses on monitoring patients' vital signs, managing pain, and ensuring a safe transition from the operating room to full recovery. The nurse will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive post‑operative care.
The role demands vigilance, quick decision‑making, and compassionate patient interaction to address any complications promptly. Ultimately, the goal is to facilitate optimal patient outcomes and comfort during the immediate post‑surgical period.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Experience working in a post‑anesthesia care unit or surgical nursing environment.
- Strong knowledge of anesthesia recovery protocols and patient monitoring techniques.
- Ability to work part‑time day shifts as specified.
- Certification in Post Anesthesia Nursing (CPAN) or Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CAPA).
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
- Additional training or experience in pain management and patient education.
- Demonstrated skills in teamwork and interdisciplinary communication.
- Previous experience in a high‑volume surgical center or hospital setting.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and level of consciousness continuously in the PACU.
- Assess and manage patients' pain and comfort levels using appropriate interventions and medications.
- Collaborate with surgical teams and anesthesiologists to communicate patient status and any concerns.
- Provide patient education and emotional support to patients and their families during the recovery process.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care, observations, and interventions.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards within the PACU environment.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or changes in patient condition, initiating appropriate interventions.
The required skills such as patient monitoring, pain management, and emergency response are essential for ensuring patient safety and comfort during the critical post‑operative phase. Effective communication skills enable the nurse to coordinate care with surgical teams and provide clear information to patients and families. Proficiency in clinical documentation ensures accurate records that support continuity of care and legal compliance. Preferred skills like certification in post‑anesthesia nursing and familiarity with EHR systems enhance the nurse's ability to deliver specialized and efficient care.
