The OR Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care of the patients in the operating room. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients within the perioperative and outpatient environment utilizing the nursing process.
Responsibilities:
- Purposefully conducts all aspects of job in an ethical manner in support of the organization's commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
- Maintains confidentiality according to established policy.
- Demonstrates professional accountability.
- Following and completing assignments as given by the OR Manager and/or Nurse Administrator
- Creating and maintaining an atmosphere with a positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
- Synthesizes patient data and implements action plans appropriate to situation (good judgment, critical thinking).
- Participates in identifying and developing the performance improvement focus and criteria.
- Collaborates with appropriate disciplines in developing coordinated outcomes and interventions; interacts with team members regarding patient progress. Serves as a clinical liaison. Supervises non-licensed personnel as assigned.
- Participates in Performance Improvement/Safety Program
- Various administrative duties on nonsurgical days.
- Assist in new employee orientation and training in the OR.
- Provides guidance and orientation to agency staff when needed.
- Circulating surgical procedures for various surgeons.
- Preparing surgery suite for procedures according to surgeons' preference card.
- Operating equipment and performing technical skills according to policies and standards; learning new skills and seeking assistance appropriately.
- Scrubbing surgical procedures for various surgeons if applicable.
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment, subject to frequent interruptions
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
- Pushing and pulling heavy objects
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50lbs
- Full range of body motion including transporting, handling, and lifting patients
- Working beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- May be subject to hostile and/or combative patients, visitors, and personnel
Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from accredited college or institution.
- Minimum of two (2) years OR experience
- Current unrestricted RN licensure in the state of Georgia
- BLS Certification
- ACLS Certification
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regulations
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must possess communication skills suited to a wide variety of audiences in both written and verbal capacities.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and other related software programs
- Ability to recognize and process confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Evidence of leadership qualities
