As a Consulting Utility Forester with AMS, your office is the great outdoors. We keep the lights on anywhere there is a power line, whether in the city, the rural countryside, or deep in the remote forest. As an AMS Work Planner/Auditor, you will keep communities informed about the trees and power lines while ensuring safe delivery of their power.

The pay range for this position is from $20.00 to $22.00 per hour, contingent upon relevant education, experience, and industry-specific certifications. This range is determined by the tier associated with the job posting; compensation may fall outside the stated range if the employee is classified under a different tier.

What You Will Do
  • Ultimately, improve safe and reliable electric service delivery to the public.
  • Act as the subject matter expert regarding utility vegetation management (UVM), for clients, landowners, and other stakeholders.
  • Inspect electric utility easements and prescribe vegetation management actions.
  • Coordinate with landowners and stakeholders to develop vegetation management plans for their properties.
  • Ensure tree crews are following proper safety and arboricultural practices and procedures.
  • Address customer concerns related to vegetation in and adjacent to utility easements.
  • Coordinate with utility engineers to assist with infrastructure upgrades and new construction.
  • Negotiate with customers for tree removal as prescribed.
  • Perform QA/QC inspections on completed vegetation management work.
  • Identify vegetative threats to safe and reliable electric service and develop action plans to mitigate.
  • Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations for the organization.
What You Need to Have
  • Ability to read maps.
  • Ability to identify tree species and growth rates.
  • Willingness to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain within a remote area.
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, smartphones).
  • Ability to drive a work vehicle, making frequent stops.
What Would Be Amazing to Have
  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Certification as an ISA Arborist, Registered Forester, or other related certificates/licenses a plus.
  • Prior GIS software/technology experience preferred.
  • A strong desire to grow and develop your career and knowledge in the UVM industry with AMS.
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Working Environment and Physical

Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environments. Physical demands and travel from site to site include walking/hiking on various surfaces and exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.
