Mortgage Field Services Inspector

FAR Inspections is looking for highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. Independent contractors earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income and enjoy a flexible schedule. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required, but an ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines is crucial.

Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties and send independent contractors to verify property occupancy using a mobile application. The purpose of the inspection is to verify occupancy and report on the general condition of the property.

Most inspections are exterior only. About 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.

We contract with inspectors at a county level. Inspectors are responsible for completing all inspections in their county, or they may share a county with another inspector if volume allows.

• Most inspections take 5-6 minutes.
• Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.
• Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
• Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
• Complete a short form in an app.
• Spend extended periods driving with numerous stops during the day within the assigned territory.

• Computer with an internet connection.
• Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus; you pay for your own gas).
• Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
• Printer.
• Pass a standard background check using a valid driver's license.

This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate, varying by county and volume. While you are paid per inspection, you will earn the equivalent of $30‑$40 per hour
. Depending on your county and whether it is urban or rural, you may complete anywhere from 20 to 500 inspections per month, working 2 to 30 hours per week. Lower volume counties have higher rates, and higher volume counties have lower rates. There is no set amount of inspections per month, but the work is consistent month‑to‑month.

Earn more as you become established, have greater availability to inspect, or are willing to cover a larger territory.

No additional mileage reimbursement above the flat fee per inspection.
