Customer Service Associate – Golden Pantry Food Stores

Department: Operations

Reports To: Store Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Statement of Job

Responsible for the proper, efficient, and safe operation of the shift, in a manner that supports profitability of the store.

Essential Functions

Note:

These are the essential functions and the minimum physical and mental requirements for all store positions:

  • Smile, speak to, and respond to customers.
  • Stand and/or walk up to eight (8) or ten (10) hours per day depending on shift.
  • Read, write, hear and understand the English language.
  • Perform the four basic arithmetic operations to make change, complete end of shift reports, and account for inventory.
  • Have sufficient vision to check identification, process transactions, and read measurements.
  • Read and understand instructions for operating cash registers, fuel pump controls, money order machines, and other equipment.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds carrying cases of milk, soda, beer and juice containers, etc., safely at least once per shift.
  • Squat, bend, twist, grasp, reach and manipulate objects from ground to overhead to stock shelves and coolers.
  • React to a fire by lifting and transporting a fire extinguisher to the area.
  • Bend and remove metal plates and underground tank caps to check fuel levels.
  • Climb a ladder to clean windows and retrieve materials.
  • Sweep and mop floors, dust shelving and lift and carry trash bags to outside bins.
  • Sweep parking lot and clean outside grounds and equipment.
  • Enter and work in a cooler at 34 degrees for up to 30 minutes at a time.
  • Use a hand truck, flat cart, mop, broom, degreaser, and various cleaning solvents.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Observe work schedule as posted unless a change is approved by the Store Manager.
  • Adhere to all City, County, State and Federal laws.
  • Operate shift within company guidelines to achieve sales and profits and maintain standards.
  • Perform all duties in a safe, reliable manner.
  • Complete an incident report for all employee/customer accidents or property damage on the premises.
  • Complete shift change Checklist according to guidelines.
  • Record information as warranted in the store communication log.
  • Stay familiar with company manuals, bulletins, and other communications.
  • Inform Store Manager of any situations impacting store operations.
  • Recruit prospective employees.
  • Prepare a shift change report at shift end per company guidelines.
  • Record all hours worked and sign timecard verifying hours.
  • Ensure proper sale and accounting of merchandise during the shift.
Customer Service
  • Provide prompt and courteous service to all customers.
  • Maintain personal appearance according to Employee Handbook guidelines.
  • Wear company uniform and name badge while on duty.
  • Greet customers with a smile and friendly acknowledgment.
  • Rings merchandise promptly, returns change accurately, and provides receipts.
  • Assist customers who need help and remind them of specials when appropriate.
  • Express appreciation to customers and handle complaints per company guidelines.
Inventory and Cash Control
  • Control cash and inventory on their shift per company guidelines.
  • Protect company assets at all times.
  • Report damaged or spoiled merchandise discovered on shift.
Merchandising
  • Keep coolers, shelves, and displays stocked and fronted.
  • Ensure fast food area is clean and stocked.
  • Keep check-out counter clean and free of clutter.
  • Use correct pricing for all merchandise.
Maintenance
  • Keep store and floors clean at all times.
  • Check refrigeration units for proper temperatures.
  • Clean windows, doors, floors, shelves, counters, gas pumps; check pumps and hoses for leaks.
  • Contact service department in the absence of the Store Manager for listed after-hours maintenance issues.
Food Service Operations
  • Ensure store operations meet standards, including required training.
  • Investigate and resolve food quality and service complaints.
  • Ensure food safety and quality through proper cleaning, hygienic practices, and safe handling of food.
  • Follow procedures for storing, preparing, cooking, displaying, serving and accounting for product during shift.
