Role

The Refrigeration Installation / Startup Technician is responsible for performing start-up and functionality checking on newly installed HVAC, plumbing and electrical components, equipment and systems.

Responsibilities
  • Works under limited supervision, follows fairly well-defined procedures, and may deviate when warranted. Trains and provides guidance to Start-Up Technicians with less experience.
  • Performs start-up and functionality checking on newly installed HVAC, plumbing and electrical components, equipment and systems. Verifies operation per engineering or factory specifications and in accordance with city/trade codes. Coordinates with subcontractors or vendors to ensure proper operation of equipment.
  • Interprets drawings, identifies errors/omissions, and advises the appropriate supervisor.
  • Install, connect, or adjust thermostats, humidistats, sensors, controllers, and mechanical parts related to the plans.
  • Disassembles and reassembles commercial mechanical and plumbing equipment for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance; ensures equipment is level and aligned.
  • Explains the work performed to the satisfaction of the customer; assists with startup and commissioning of building automation and refrigeration systems as necessary.
  • Provides installation of controls to ensure complete operation of newly installed and existing equipment and building automation and refrigeration systems.
  • Diagnoses HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing and/or electrical system performance through observation, testing and setup per plans.
  • Completes necessary documents accurately and timely for customer invoicing and EPA requirements.
  • Reads and comprehends plans and blueprints relevant to the installation of cabling, communication loops, and components for energy management and refrigerant leak systems.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets plans, specifications, contract documents, control drawings, service bulletins, manuals, equipment specs, and regulations.
  • Maintains truck inventory in an orderly manner and adheres to vehicle maintenance guidelines (if applicable).
  • Manages multiple priorities with minimal guidance and can lead others on projects.
Qualifications
  • Formal

    Education:

    High School or ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred:
    Technical Degree
  • Minimum experience:

    2 years of experience with HS/GED; 0 years with Tech Degree
  • EPA 608 Certification level 3
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Physically able to climb ladders, work at heights, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, detail-oriented, highly motivated
  • Mechanical aptitude; ability to work nights, weekends, and travel as required
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with minimal supervision
