Roles & Responsibilities
  • Using NCCER curriculum to deliver craft instruction.
  • Keep track of an apprentice’s & journeymen’s daily attendance, ensuring the journeyman‑to‑apprentice ratio is 1:1 each day.
  • Track and report apprentice hours daily.
  • Track and report daily/monthly job training trackers.
  • Work with the apprentice Program coordinator for any special needs/accommodation requests.
  • Submit all paperwork to the apprentice Program coordinator.
  • Ensure evaluations by learners are conducted.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all training and testing materials.
  • Maintain training and testing documentation for audit purposes.
  • Follow all NCCER policies and procedures, including those implemented between publication dates of these Accreditation Standards.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a journeyman electrician in the construction industry, preferably solar.
  • Journeyman electrician license preferred.
  • NCCER certified instructor certification a plus.
  • Proven experience in electrical installations, including solar panel systems.
  • Strong math knowledge and skills related to job tasks. Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Electric Code, safety protocols, and industry best practices to ensure electrical installation is per current applicable codes.
  • Ability to read and understand conduit drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, grounding drawings, lighting arrangements, panel drawings, and other specifications.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of electrical installations such as high/medium/low voltage distribution, switch gear, DCS, PLCs, and raceways above and below ground, cable tray, cable installation, and instrument installation.
Physical Requirements
  • Must comply with PCL’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination, pre‑employment if necessary, and as required by PCL.
  • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).
  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials. PCL policy requires assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.).
  • Must work all hours needed at the jobsite and possible weekends with short notice.
Safety/Environment
  • Knowledge of solar construction site hazards which may require special precautions and PPE. Knowledge of power generating plant and cement plant hazards and special PPE.
  • Must undertake the appropriate safety/environmental training commensurate with the position and location.
  • Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures as needed or directed in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to read and understand safety instructions, signs, labels, and permits in English.
