What We NeedWe’re looking for an Intermediate Backend Software Engineer to join our team and help build scalable, reliable backend systems. You’ll primarily work with Scala and Java, with opportunities to explore Kotlin as we expand our stack. Our data layer runs on Postgres and Mongo
DB, giving you a chance to work with both relational and document-oriented databases. If you’re passionate about building APIs, improving performance, and solving complex engineering challenges, this role is for you.
- Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs.
- Work with Postgres and MongoDB for data storage and access.
- Collaborate with teammates across engineering, product, and QA.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture planning.
- Contribute to best practices as we introduce Kotlin into the stack.
- Optimize performance and reliability across distributed systems.
- 3–5 years of backend software engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Scala or Java (experience with both is a plus).
- Interest in or exposure to Kotlin
. - Experience with relational and non-relational databases (Postgres, Mongo
DB, or similar). - Solid understanding of API design, distributed systems, and data modeling.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Respect for others and a strong belief that others should do this in return
- Experience with various technical disciplines and applications
- Close attention to detail, following up until issues are resolved
- Ability to multitask on a variety of critical projects
- Ability to work independently, while also collaborating with others
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate moderately complex technical information within the team
- Skills to recognize and solve frequently occurring problems
- Analytical thinking
- Resourcefulness and independent judgement
Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data.
$116,000 - $145,000
