A Crane Operator operates a crane to lift, position, and place machinery, equipment, or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities.

Overview Of Primary Duties
- Ability to use a surveyor's level to maintain elevation grades on project sites.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy equipment.
- Skill in planning and organizing.
- Assists in unloading and assembling cranes or other hoisting equipment to be used in construction activities.
- Utilizes basic skills as an operator in swinging rig, raising or lowering crane boom, raising and lowering load lines on the crane.
- Maneuvers and positions load over designated areas in a smooth, safe manner.
- Utilizes load charts to determine the load and radius capabilities of the crane.
- Performs daily safety inspection of crane and recognizes possible problem areas such as worn cables, worn bands on hoisting mechanisms, broken gears, housing, etc.

- Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices
- Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
- Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
- Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
- Participate in workplace inspections.
- Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
- Participate in required and assigned training.
- Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
- Present a mature approach to working safely.
- Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
- Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.
- This is not an all-inclusive list of tasks an employee may be asked to do. Employees are expected to complete any tasks they are assigned.
- Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related heavy crane operator experience.
- Be capable of successfully passing a crane operation certificate test.
- Operate cranes by way of radio communications or hand signals, if applicable.
- Responsible for maintaining safe crane operations as per Yates and manufacturers procedures/guidelines within the crane’s capabilities.
- Wearing, inspecting, and caring for required personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to read and follow crane operator procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
- The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

- The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
- Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
- Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
