Location: Montgomery Village, Germantown MD

Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tax Accountant to join our growing team. This position is ideal for a hands-on tax preparer who can handle a high volume of returns and is proficient in preparing individual (1040), partnership (1065), and S Corporation (1120S) tax returns. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, taking client-provided financial information, making appropriate bookkeeping and journal entries, and accurately preparing business and individual tax returns.

This is not a review role. We are specifically looking for someone who enjoys preparing tax returns and managing volume with speed and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and S Corporations.
  • Input client financial data and perform necessary bookkeeping entries to generate accurate trial balances and financials for tax purposes.
  • Analyze client-provided documents (bank statements, income/expense summaries, etc.) and determine appropriate tax treatment.
  • Reconcile financial records and ensure accuracy before tax preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with current tax laws and regulations.
  • Work with team members and clients to resolve outstanding questions or missing information.
  • Maintain detailed work papers and documentation for all returns prepared.
  • Manage workload efficiently to meet internal deadlines during peak tax seasons.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of tax preparation experience with individuals, partnerships, and S Corporations.
  • Strong understanding of tax law and accounting principles related to small businesses and individuals.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Lacerte, Pro Series, Ultra Tax, Drake, or similar).
  • Experience with Quick Books or similar bookkeeping software is a plus.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of tax returns with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • CPA or EA preferred, but not required.
Preferred Traits:
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Enjoys the technical, detail-oriented side of tax return preparation.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and "own" the preparation process from start to finish.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • $80,000 - $100,000 a year
  • Seasonal overtime pay or bonus opportunities
  • Flexible work environment (hybrid or remote options may be available)
