Position: Dean Of Instruction  - Education and Social Sciences

Overview

Montgomery College is seeking an individual to serve as dean of instruction for the Education and Social Sciences area starting January 2026. This 40-hour weekly assignment provides executive direction in implementing academic programs and services, curriculum development, budget administration, faculty hiring, evaluation, professional development, and maintaining academic standards within the unit.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning:
    Provides administrative and visionary leadership to faculty and staff regarding short- and long-range planning and programming.
  • Student-centered Focus:
    Develops and ensures student-centered focus in alignment with the college's mission and goals.
  • Curriculum Oversight:
    Oversees curriculum development and ensures the quality and relevance of academic programs.
  • Teaching and Learning:
    Promotes innovative teaching and learning practices.
  • Faculty and Staff Development:
    Recruits, mentors, and evaluates full-time faculty and staff; encourages professional development and research opportunities; fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment; ensures compliance with relevant collective bargaining agreements.
  • Student Success and Support:
    Enhances student engagement and retention; addresses student needs and facilitates pathways for career and academic advancement.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    Manages the area’s budget, resources, and facilities; authorizes and monitors expenditures; works with Academic Affairs leadership to secure funding opportunities and partnerships.
  • Community and Industry Engagement:
    Builds partnerships with industry, educational institutions, and community organizations; promotes programs through outreach and advocacy.
Minimum Education , Training And Experience Required
  • Master’s degree in Education, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related field; doctorate or terminal degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a department chair or equivalent managerial/leadership experience in an academic instructional department and/or above.
  • Proven track record of managing student success initiatives for academic programs.
  • Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary level in a field within the area, with a preference for teaching in a community college setting.

Hiring Range: $114,539 - $157,505 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $200,472 annually. For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency must be included in your application.
