Job Summary
:
At the direction of the principal, this para educator performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well‑being to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). The para educator work is focused on facilitating the student mastery of grade‑level curriculum or mastery of Alternate Academic Achievement Standards. Students supported at this level are typically in general education classes throughout the school day and may receive individualized or small‑group instruction.
The position also provides instructional and classroom‑management supports, and related clerical tasks to support teachers and professional staff in all classroom or learning environments.
Physical Demands & Special Requirements
:
Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 lb may be required. Overtime, night work, or outside duty may be required. Must accommodate flexible scheduling and changes in location or program. Will continue planned instructional activities during the teacher’s temporary absence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and instructional goals/policies.
- Ability to assist with implementation of instructional program and monitor student behavior.
- Patient behavior, effective with children, young adults, and staff.
- Follow written and verbal instructions; perform all required tasks.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Interact with and support students with special needs.
- Knowledge of standard computer hardware/software (Google Workspace, MS Office, web‑based tools).
- Ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training, and Experience
- Associate’s degree required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. College coursework minimum nine credit hours in education field (behavior management, instructional strategies). - Preferred: one year of experience with students in structured educational settings.
- Alternative: at least 48 college credits and two years of experience in a structured setting (daycare, preschool, adult day program, after‑school program, etc.).
- Or: two years in a structured setting; successful completion of Para Pro Assessment (score ≥ 455) required.
- Or: any combination of education, training, and experience that provides knowledge, abilities, and skills needed.
