Long-Term Substitute Teacher, Special Education (HSM), Waters Landing ES (Full Time)
The special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Physical Demands:
As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements:
Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.
Teachers employed in special education schools or discrete special education service models are required to successfully complete specific courses provided by MCPS. The courses are designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities, particularly courses in behavioral management which include nonviolent crisis interventions. Teachers in these identified schools and programs will be required to support behavioral interventions.
This job is from approximately 8/25/25 - 10/31/25. The wage range for this position is between $20.29 and $35.84 per hour. This position does not include benefits.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) curriculum for the grade/content range of the position, MCPS special education program. Thorough knowledge of IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best instructional practices, research-based reading instruction, multicultural education, assessments.
Education Training
Experience:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in special education.. Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment required. Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years teaching experience at level appropriate to assignment (elementary or secondary).
Certificate License:
Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education. Certification in a content area is desirable.
