As a Network Engineer supporting Department of Energy EITS program customers throughout the United States, you will be trusted to work as a Network Engineer Associate on the Network Operations 24X7 Team utilizing performance monitoring tools such as Smokeping, Nagios, Infoblox, ISE, Service Now, and Splunk.
Key Responsibilities:- Monitor LAN, MAN, and WAN and respond to hardware, software, and network problems (e.g., Smokeping, Nagios, ISE, Splunk, Forescout, Info Blox).
- Interface with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or performance degradation.
- Open trouble tickets with telco carriers and vendors through resolution (e.g., Verizon, Lumen, AT&T, ESnet, Cisco).
- Utilize repository of records and reports concerning network operations and maintenance activities during your shift (e.g., Shift Change Over, Service Now tickets).
- Analyze network traffic and elevate observed anomalies to Tier 3 Network Operations Engineers for action.
Conditions:
- Support non-standard shifts and work weeks; 12‑hour rotating shifts (e.g., Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Every other Wednesday).
- Primary place of duty:
Department of Energy Germantown, Maryland Complex; some telework authorized as needed.
BA/BS or equivalent, 2+ years of experience.
Clearance:Top Secret clearance or DOE‑Q clearance is required.
Compensation:The likely salary range for this position is $76,500 – $103,500. Salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
