Job Objectives: A school psychologist that works in the GMSD school system has primary objectives that are to serve students and families who have various individual learning and assessment needs that are addressed by data assessments that provide meaningful feedback to all stakeholders interested in the betterment of children.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Psy.
D. in School Psychology preferred. - Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist by the Tennessee Board of Examiners and/or have a valid School Psychologist certification from the Tennessee Board of Education.
- Experience and training in multicultural assessment.
- Experience as a school psychologist in a public school setting.
- Experience in conducting research, especially data analysis and interpretation.
- Knowledgeable about commonly used psychometric instruments.
- Knowledge and experience in diagnosis or special education disabilities as defined by the state of Tennessee, particularly Specific Learning Disabilities and “Response to Intervention.”
- Understanding of the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) process.
- Such alternatives as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions:
- Assesses students who are referred for evaluation in a timely manner and according to the guidelines established by the state of Tennessee.
- Provides assistance to students, families, and school personnel as needed to support students in the school setting.
- Assists the Exceptional Student Education Department with planning and conducting professional growth programs, workshops, and other staff development activities.
- Assists teachers as needed or requested in the development of effective instructional and assessment techniques for students with special needs or disabilities.
- Assists schools and other district personnel in the recognition and use of appropriate alternative assessment strategies to address the needs of a diverse student population.
- Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Exceptional Student Education and other personnel in the analysis of data associated with assessment and evaluation of students.
- Prepares clear and concise reports.
- Performs such other duties as assigned the Assistant Superintendent of Exceptional Student Education.
- Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

- Proficient in the use of computer applications, to include spreadsheets, databases and word processing applications.
Supervisory Responsibility: Will be provided a case-load based on school and system-wide needs for students and families who are in need of additional assistance.
Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable. Standard school office environment.
Terms of Employment: The School Psychologist maintains a forty-hour (40) workweek and works additional hours as required to carry out all the duties and responsibilities of the position. This is an eleven (11) month position.
