Responsibilities

Job Summary
In alignment with Brookdale’s Resident and Family Engagement philosophy, plan, coordinate and facilitate a calendar of person‑centered dementia‑friendly programs that meet the specific needs of all residents within the dementia care community. Provide programs that engage residents in meaningful and purposeful dementia care, enhancing their quality of life and respecting their individual abilities, needs, habits, routines, interests and preferences.

  • Design a 7‑day a week person‑centered program that is engaging, creative and meets residents’ needs and interests.
  • Develop a monthly calendar in partnership with residents, based on shared interests, ensuring special events and daily path programs are scheduled and executed.
  • Ensure dementia care programs comply with Brookdale Excellence Standards Tool (BEST), divisional Dementia Care Site visit tool, state, federal and other regulations, and Brookdale’s mission, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with community leadership to educate and provide resources to families and associates about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, including in‑services and event facilitation.
  • Possibly provide direct supervision of Clare Bridge Program Assistants, including hiring, coaching, counseling and performance evaluations, as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Collaborate with community leadership in planning and decorating special events such as holidays, signature programs, National Walk to End Alzheimer’s, family socials, educational and marketing events.
  • Report changes in residents’ overall health to the clinical partner and collaborate with the team on timely interventions for behavioral expressions.
  • Oversee social media content to ensure alignment with Brookdale’s culture, brand and social media guidance.
  • Plan and schedule programming events outside the community, which may include driving a community motor vehicle.
  • Maintain and adhere to the department’s monthly budget and expense control, and possibly manage the volunteer program.
  • Perform personal care, housekeeping and dietary responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, education or related field preferred. Minimum two years of direct programming experience with older adults and persons with dementia preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
