Family Advocacy Program (FAP) Educator

General Description:
Family Advocacy Program (FAP) Educator shall provide services in support of the Army Community Service (ACS), United States Army Garrison (USAG) Bavaria Military Community. Shall be responsible for classes on FAP-related topics to Soldiers, Department of Army (DA) civilians, and their Families. Shall also handle some routine FAP administrative actions.

Specific Tasks:
  • Family Advocacy Program Overview Briefing: One hundred four (104) sessions shall be anticipated. The briefing shall a 15 minute to 30-minute session which provides basic information on FAP services and the reporting point of contact for USAG Bavaria.
  • Suspected Child Abuse Identification and Reporting and Positive Guidance: A 1-1.5-hour session targeted for childcare providers and individuals working with children in the USAG Bavaria community. This class informs participants on how to identify and report child abuse and how to prevent child abuse allegations through positive guidance.
  • Family Advocacy Program Unit Troop Brief: This brief shall be offer and provided at Unit’s request and shall be approximately one (1) hour sessions with information on identification of child abuse and domestic violence, prevention tools for family violence, and how to access resources in the community.
  • Community Outreach: Twenty-four (24) sessions shall be anticipated. This is a community outreach service, which is inclusive of having informational tables set up at different locations in the community and attending community events as a FAP representative.
  • Marriage Enrichment Education Group: Twenty-four (24) sessions shall be anticipated. This shall be a two (2) hour class.
  • Parent-Child Education Group: Two hundred-eight (208) sessions shall be anticipated. This session shall be 1.5 hours.
  • Life Skills Classes: Two hundred-eight (208) sessions shall be anticipated. This session shall be 1.5-2-hour sessions aimed at individual and family resilience to encourage healthy coping skills to prevent domestic abuse.
  • New Classes: Any additional/new classes deemed required by the FAPM or ACS Director.
  • Scheduling of all services shall be conducted in coordination with the COR and the FAPM.
  • In coordination with the COR and FAPM, you shall update and/or create curriculum and training aids seven (7) days prior to the following scheduled training date.
  • Responsible for developing publicity for classes in conjunction with the ACS Information Follow-up and Referral Program Manager.
  • Briefings/Classes requested by organizations.
  • Individual enrollment.
  • Record of instruction.
  • New briefing/class development.
  • Update of existing instruction materials.
  • Publicity: Responsible for developing publicity for classes as indicated in conjunction with the ACS marketing plan.
  • Enter, update, and submit a projected 90-day monthly class/event calendar, for all ACS FAP Activities, to include any updates as changes occur.
  • Generate and submit a variety of administrative reports and a monthly program management review that summarizes and highlights the services provided.
  • Enter/update the appropriate approved program database, currently the Army Family Web Portal (AFWP), on the same day but no later than three (3) working days of all activities to include but not limited to classes, briefings, events, campaigns, meetings.
  • Attend and participate in weekly FAP staff meetings, monthly Army Community Service (ACS) meetings, the quarterly Family Advocacy Committee (FAC). Shall attend and participate in Fatality Review Committee (FRC) as requested.
Position Requirements
Bachelor, 3+ Years work experience
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with one of the listed majors from an accredited college or university:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Psychology
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Family and Child Counseling
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Community/Public Health
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • Minimum of 24 hours in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, Public Administration or Public Health.
  • Two (2) years of experience with and organization which act towards the prevention of Child and spouse/domestic/intimate partner abuse, for example, an Armed Forces Family Advocacy Program, or Two (2) years of experience in Family and Children Services; for example, experience working with child protection services, domestic violence victim advocacy services or women’s shelters.
  • Knowledge of the military system and military family lifestyle.
  • Knowledge of Army Family support system and Army Community Service and its programs.
  • Experience conducting professional trainings/briefings and knowledge of the military organizational structure.
  • Knowledge of Army administrative/correspondence rules.
  • Experience utilizing computer programs necessary for accomplishment of duties (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, and email). One (1) year experience using these programs in development and delivery of classes in a military or office setting, such as Army Community Service.
  • Ability to present information orally and in written format (i.e., marketing) (in clear English with excellent comprehension) to clearly communicate with and instruct colleagues, supervisors, and clients.
  • German or Spanish language skills are a plus but not required.
