Utility Consulting Engineer – Gerrards Cross
We are looking for a Utility Consulting Engineer to join our Design team based in Gerrards Cross. The role involves advising clients on the management of electricity, gas, water, and telecoms, from initial feasibility through to the design, procurement and connection stages. You will work within the Mechanical, Electrical and Technology team, helping clients achieve cost savings, efficiency and net‑zero goals while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Responsibilities- Conduct feasibility studies and provide strategic advice on utility infrastructure for new developments or existing operations.
- Liaise with suppliers, utility providers, regulatory bodies and internal project teams (architects, engineers).
- Lead utility connection projects (water, gas, electric, telecom) from concept to completion, managing timelines and budgets.
- Perform due diligence, design concept strategies and drafting for utility infrastructure.
- Identify and mitigate utility‑related risks such as grid constraints and asset location issues.
- Advise on energy and water savings, procurement, contract negotiation and sustainability targets.
- Ensure adherence to industry regulations (e.g., NRSWA, HSG
47) and quality standards.
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification in engineering, project management, or a related field.
- Experience in the utility industry, preferably in a business‑to‑business service delivery environment.
- Knowledge of UK utility market, regulatory framework, procurement processes and utility works (loading calculations, network reinforcement, design).
- Understanding of renewable technologies for developer connections and familiarity with legislation such as the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, HAUC, HSG
47 and related guidance. - Ability to demonstrate knowledge of sustainable development practices and net‑zero objectives.
