Job Summary

The Galvanizing Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing all galvanizing operations during the assigned shift. The role ensures smooth workflow, optimum production, quality, safety compliance, and effective manpower management. The supervisor must have strong experience in hot-dip galvanizing processes and equipment handling.

Key Responsibilities

Production Process Management

Supervise the complete hot-dip galvanizing process including surface preparation, fluxing, galvanizing, and finishing.
Ensure production targets are met during the shift with optimum zinc consumption and minimum wastage.
Monitor kettle temperature, chemical concentrations, and pickling bath parameters.
Coordinate with material handling teams for smooth loading/unloading of structures.
Implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.

Quality Control

Ensure all galvanized products meet quality standards as per ISO/IS/ASTM specifications.
Inspect materials for coating thickness, appearance, and finish quality.
Address quality issues immediately and take corrective actions.
Maintain QC records and daily shift reports.

Manpower Supervision

Allocate work to operators, helpers, and supporting staff.
Ensure all employees follow SOPs and maintain discipline.
Conduct on-job training for new employees related to galvanizing processes and safety.

Safety Compliance

Ensure strict compliance with plant safety rules and PPE usage.
Monitor handling of chemicals (acid, flux, zinc bath) as per safety norms.
Report any unsafe act or condition to higher management.
Conduct toolbox talks and shift-start safety briefing.

Equipment Maintenance

Monitor the condition of galvanizing kettle, burners, cranes, pickling tanks, and other equipment.
Report breakdowns and coordinate with the maintenance team for repairs.
Maintain housekeeping of the galvanizing area (5S).

Documentation Reporting

Prepare daily shift production report, material processed, and zinc consumption.
Maintain records of rework, wastages, and downtime.
Handover shift details to the next supervisor smoothly.
Skills Competencies Required
Strong knowledge of hot-dip galvanizing process .
Experience in handling pickling tanks, flux tanks, kettle operations, and cranes .
Leadership team management skills.
Understanding of galvanizing quality standards (ASTM A123, IS 4759, ISO standards).
Ability to troubleshoot process issues.
Strong focus on safety and compliance.
Good communication and reporting skills.
Qualification Experience
Diploma /

B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production / Any relevant field.
38 years of hands-on experience in hot-dip galvanizing operations.
Experience in supervising a galvanizing plant shift is preferred.
Work Conditions
Rotational shifts.
Exposure to hot-dip galvanizing plant environment (heat, chemicals, fumes).
PPE usage is mandatory.
