-Substance Abuse Counselor IV (GID) - 53054 at Texas Juvenile Justice Department. The role provides trauma informed, holistic Alcohol or Other Drugs (AOD) specialized treatment for youth committed to the agency who require AOD treatment in addition to the agency's Texas Model of Trauma Informed Corrections. The AOD program includes high intensity treatment at dorms, outpatient delivery at secure facilities and halfway houses, and continuity of care after release.
The position performs complex (journey-level) administrative and supervisory program work in substance abuse counseling and assessment, provides clinical supervision to counseling interns, develops and evaluates program activities, ensures compliance with DSHS standards and grant requirements, and collaborates with program management to implement improvements. Moderate travel may be required.
Responsibilities- Supervise the work of assigned program staff and provide training and technical assistance in the program area.
- Interview, screen, and assess clients for potential program participation and services.
- Provide substance abuse counseling, education classes, or rehabilitative programs individually or in groups.
- Collaborate with AOD program management and staff to develop program goals, guidelines, procedures, schedules, priorities, and standards.
- Provide clinical supervision to counseling interns and ongoing coaching, mentoring, and training of AOD program staff.
- Identify areas needing change; recommend and implement activities to improve program delivery and eliminate gaps in service.
- Prepare and evaluate budget requests for grant-funded programs.
- Represent the AOD Specialized Treatment Program at business meetings and coordinate with program management as directed.
- Coordinate and conduct reviews to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, agency policies, and DSHS standards, and maintain required documentation.
- Assist in staffing, meetings, and sharing information to address concerns and enhance treatment services.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and monitor fidelity of program implementation.
- Performs other duties as assigned and ensures safety in accordance with agency policies.
