TJJD - Juvenile Correctional Officer Supervisor - (GID) - 54255
Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) seeks an experienced Juvenile Correctional Officer Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of a juvenile residential unit, mentor correctional officers, and ensure the safety and security of both youth and staff. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of youth treatment programs, such as Texas Model 2.0, and a commitment to fostering a positive, structured environment for juveniles with complex trauma.
Responsibilities:
- Provide on‑the‑job training to new and returning Juvenile Correctional Officers (JCOs) on dorm operations and youth management.
- Teach and model dorm operation procedures, role‑model proper interventions, and ensure JCOs complete required dorm modules.
- Coach and model appropriate youth engagement and dorm management techniques to staff and provide behavior‑change strategies to inspire positive youth behavior.
- Assist JCOs in applying dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills and conflict‑resolution strategies.
- Support staff with information on target behaviors, reinforcers, safety needs, and treatment plans for juveniles.
- Participate in the Youth Service Team and provide input into individual youth treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate records, file required forms, and approve/deny timesheets to ensure timely staff compensation.
- Report safety hazards, complete documentation promptly after incidents, and comply with agency safety policies.
- Work shifts under limited supervision, possibly exceeding 40 hours per week, on-call duties, and occasional travel.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Applicants must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check and any other requirements listed under Minimum Qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising correctional or correctional‑facility staff is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with initiative and judgment in a demanding environment.
