Farmgirl Flowers is seeking an exceptionally skilled floral designer with strong leadership and management experience to join the team as Head of Floral Design. This is a brand-new role; the Founder and CEO has previously held this responsibility. The post will remain open until the right person is found.
This is not a typical shop role. We want someone whose work looks and feels like Farmgirl: wild, textural, trend-forward, and never cookie-cutter. Ideally, you’ve run your own floral business or worked for a very high-end floral design company for at least ten years. You should be unflappable in a perishable-business environment and able to maintain creativity and execution under pressure.
Responsibilities- Provide design leadership across all activities: shipped bouquets, specialty activations, press events, weddings, and more.
- Balance creativity with practicality on e-commerce product design—consider price, scale, and shippability while delivering products that wow.
- Lead brand representation at events and press opportunities; travel for events and collaborations with external partners; execute show-stopping installations that reflect Farmgirl’s aesthetic.
- Create and maintain a training program for partner facilities to ensure aesthetic and quality consistency across every bouquet.
- Direct day-to-day work, including hands-on execution and collaboration with internal/external partners; this role will largely “do.”
- Oversee a small team and work with a Product Manager and cross-functional partners (Marketing, Operations, external publicist, fulfillment partners, philanthropic partners, etc.) to develop and implement product strategy and plans.
- Remain professional, work autonomously, accept direct feedback, and iterate ideas without constant direction.
- At least 10 years of floral design experience with a proven track record in a design leadership role for 5+ years at one company.
- A strong portfolio aligned with Farmgirl’s design aesthetic (look, feel, and color composition).
- Ability to lead a team and manage design strategy and execution in a fast-paced, perishable goods environment.
- Willingness to pitch in wherever needed and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
- Comfort with travel up to 25% of the time, peaking around major flower holidays.
- This is a full-time, salaried role; compensation will align with experience and level.
- Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; and a 401(k) with company match. Relocation support available; potential option to relocate from WA to NYC after 12 months.
Qualified candidates should study our aesthetic prior to applying and share a portfolio demonstrating the ability to fill the Founder/CEO’s design shoes.
