About General Merchandise

Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

As a General Merchandise Expert, you may build skills in guest service, retail operations, inventory management, and process improvement. The role can provide opportunities for career development within Target.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks and assisting guests to solve their needs.
• Assist guests and maintain a helpful attitude to support guest service objectives.
• Thank guests and acknowledge their visit.
• Receive products, restock shelves, organize the backroom, arrange merchandise, and put up promotional signs for GM areas as directed by leadership.
• Operate power equipment if certified to move merchandise or store fixtures.
• Execute processes including pricing changes, merchandise setup and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed.
• Learn how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
• Remain knowledgeable about store resources and area-specific products and services to resolve guest issues.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
• Work safely and report hazards; follow safety policies and training.
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment (e.g., picking, packing orders, or delivering pickup orders) while complying with applicable laws.
• Other duties as needed based on business needs.

• Ability to stay focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established time frames.

Basic Requirements

• Accurate cash handling as needed.
• Ability to climb ladders where required.
• Ability to scan, move, and handle merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds without assistance.
• Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable attendance.
• Comfort with varying temperatures and environments (e.g., drive-up, carryout).
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a shift.
