Primary PurposeTo provide a high level of technical support on a regional or system basis relating to corrosion control and pipeline integrity. Design and maintain cathodic protection and internal corrosion control facilities. Conduct internal and external specialized corrosion tests on steel structures. Level 1 is an entry level position with approximately six to twelve months of training/work experience in order to progress to the next level.
Responsibilities- Responsible for all activities related to corrosion control and pipeline integrity, including design, installation, operation, and maintenance of cathodic protection facilities, power lines, galvanic anodes and internal corrosion control facilities.
- Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe‑to‑soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, data from in‑line tools, etc.
- Monitor electrical isolation and identify points of electrical shorts.
- Conduct various tests, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection facilities.
- Lead efforts to design and implement effective long‑term cathodic protection systems. Prepare drawings, job specifications and contract bid documents.
- Conduct atmospheric corrosion inspections for all above ground piping and assist in developing remediation plans on atmospheric piping.
- Assist E&C and Engineering personnel with the evaluation, development, implementation and maintenance of facility grounding systems.
- Highly motivated self‑starter with ability to complete and prioritize work assignments with minimal daily supervision.
- Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork.
- Oversee the construction and/or work activities performed by third parties.
- Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements.
- Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
- Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself.
- Evaluate and remediate corrosion anomalies (i.e., pits, gouges, dents, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
- Will work non‑traditional hours as needed.
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
- Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical field or a related discipline, or direct work experience in pipeline system operations may be considered as a substitute for a degree.
- Understand and operate all corrosion related instrumentation.
- Good record of safe work practices.
- Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects.
- Ability to operate and maintain chemical injection and pressure access equipment.
- Ability to estimate installation, operating and maintenance expenses associated with corrosion systems.
- Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record (for travel).
- Ability to lift up to 52 pounds repeatedly, including lifting from knee to waist and waist to overhead positions.
- Capable of carrying objects weighing up to 52 pounds up to 15 feet.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, including working at heights with fall protection equipment.
- Ability to perform various motions such as stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting to access work areas and perform tasks.
- Dexterity to operate vibratory tools, grasp, pinch, and use specialized testing equipment safely and effectively.
