JOB SUMMARY
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the environmental processes at either the Eagle Butte or Belle Ayr Mine.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Able to meet physical demands according to Physical Demands Analysis.
- Cost effective utilization of resources to secure compliance and meet all legal and permit requirements.
- Supervise reclamation contractors and environmental consultants and projects.
- Responsible for coordination and implementation of various regulatory programs including permitting, reporting, recordkeeping, and compliance functions.
- Permitting;
- Assists in directing the identification of permitting needs including acquisition of all necessary mining and environmental permits under the various regulatory programs.
- Assists staff with permitting actions.
- Provides technical responses to agency comments.
- Compliance;
- Ensures all inspections and audits are conducted in conformance with internal policies and procedures and agency required permits and regulations.
- Develops and communicates compliance programs/requirements to internal customers and management.
- Respond to agency compliance actions.
- Assists staff with compliance functions.
- Reporting/Recordkeeping;
- Ensure all internal and agency reports/plans are submitted within specified compliance time frames.
- Ensure all records including internal and those required by permit or regulation are collected in conformance with permits and retained in conformance with regulations.
- Ensure all environmental procedures manuals, SPCC plans, etc., are updated.
- Project Management;
- Oversee select projects including permitting actions, environmental contracts, hydrologic structures construction, dewatering programs, etc.
- Assist in developing the annual budget and tracking and controlling costs.
- Identifying and communicating mine plans and obstacles for budget purposes.
- Assist in developing and providing input relating to short-and-long-term strategies for mining, reclamation and environmental compliance.
- Maintain a safe working environment, encourage safe working procedures and encourage professional conduct within and outside the company.
- Conduct special projects as directed.
- Promote environmental awareness.
- Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
$65K - $75K / annual DOE
