Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in the emergency room. They triage each patient and determine priorities of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs. The RN records patient histories, performs diagnostic tests, administers medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals. They assist physicians during examinations and emergency procedures, operate and monitor medical equipment as necessary, observe patients’ progress, guard the patient’s record, and update the attending physician directly when required.
In collaboration with the Emergency Department Director and Clinical Care Supervisor, the RN assesses, plans, implements and collaborates with other departments to ensure excellence in patient and family care, reflecting the institution’s mission, vision and values. The RN integrates departmental goals for improvement across the care continuum, coordinates and delegates unit and patient care activities to other health‑care providers, and practices within the framework of the state Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association professional standards, National Patient Safety Goals and the Emergency Nurses Association standards.
PrimaryJob Duties
- Perform patient assessment and document in patient record.
- Develop an age‑appropriate plan of care addressing physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs in collaboration with the health‑care team.
- Implement the plan of care, delegate appropriately, and ensure documentation of interventions.
- Evaluate progress toward desired outcomes, revise the plan of care and intervene as necessary.
- Educate patients and families regarding current health status, plan of care, and anticipated outcomes.
- Provide service excellence to all customers.
- Demonstrate efficient time management and prioritization skills.
- Maintain professional standards related to clinical practice, staffing and continuing education.
- Practice fiscal responsibility and accountability.
- Actively participate in hospital committees, CQI teams and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- May be required to work on other nursing units according to staff and patient distribution.
- Comply with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program, including the Code of Conduct, laws, regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensure
- Current RN license in the state of Wyoming.
- Experience
- Experience in critical care preferred.
