Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in the emergency room. They triage each patient and determine priorities of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs. The RN records patient histories, performs diagnostic tests, administers medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals. They assist physicians during examinations and emergency procedures, operate and monitor medical equipment as necessary, observe patients’ progress, guard the patient’s record, and update the attending physician directly when required.

In collaboration with the Emergency Department Director and Clinical Care Supervisor, the RN assesses, plans, implements and collaborates with other departments to ensure excellence in patient and family care, reflecting the institution’s mission, vision and values. The RN integrates departmental goals for improvement across the care continuum, coordinates and delegates unit and patient care activities to other health‑care providers, and practices within the framework of the state Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association professional standards, National Patient Safety Goals and the Emergency Nurses Association standards.
