Apprentice Electrician

Location: Gillette, WY, Wright, WY, Douglas, WY

Reports To: Electrical Superintendent

The Apprentice Electrician, under the direction of the Master Electrician, is responsible for the installation, start‑up, troubleshooting, commissioning, and servicing of industrial electrical equipment and systems. This position will follow the directions of the Journeyman Electrician to complete electrical maintenance and repair work.

• The Apprentice Electrician will support the Electrician by performing basic tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of electrical projects.
• Complete maintenance work orders on electrical equipment. Test malfunctioning equipment, identify defects, troubleshoot, repair equipment, and replace defective parts.
• Collaborate with other electrical staff to identify and resolve problems.
• Ensure optimal performance of personal equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
• Document service and installation actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
• Maintain up‑to‑date job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.

• MSHA Certification is preferred.
• 2‑4 years of electrical apprenticeship preferred.
• Demonstrate knowledge of electrical codes.
• Possess the ability to understand schematics and technical manuals.
• Must be dependable and have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must be willing to submit to pre‑employment screening, including criminal background check and drug screen.
• Basic computer knowledge required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Potential exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures, outside majority of the time.
• Work is performed on limited or restricted surfaces.
• Ability to work and maneuver in tight spaces, such as a confined space.
• Exposure to noise above 85 decibels and intense odors.
• Exposure to areas with limited visibility.
• Climbing up and down stairs and ladders to both get in and out of trenches and up to elevated platforms (scaffolding at significant heights).
• Lifting necessary equipment and materials 1‑50 pounds, 50% of the time for required tasks.
• If driving is required, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurability are required. All drivers are subject to a DMV background records search.
• Use of respirator if position requires.
• Potential or periodic amounts of time for the following:
  • Walking on uneven terrain, with an average of two miles per day
  • Standing
  • Sitting, stooping, crawling, and kneeling.
