We are seeking a Field Service Technician, Intermediate to operate compressor packages, gas processes, and rental equipment. This role plays a key part in maintaining operational compression jobs, ensuring 98% mechanical availability, and supporting overall site performance.
Position SummaryIntermediate-level responsibilities include the operation of compressor packages, gas processes, and rental equipment. Provide feedback for development of location operating policies, and material forecasting for assigned units. Maintain diagnostic and repair capabilities, and backfill or support field positions when needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Direct, coordinate, and perform job activities consistent with Kodiak’s procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Troubleshoot complex repairs and major equipment overhauls.
- Build and maintain customer relationships.
- Analyze parts and supply inventory to communicate with Supply Chain for adequate parts.
- Take corrective actions to ensure guaranteed 98% or better mechanical availability.
- Attend and participate in all HSE meetings and enforce HSE protocols.
- Maintain assigned units in a clean and presentable condition.
- Complete required reports and actions per operating procedures/policies.
- Provide 24/7 coverage and participate in on‑call rotations.
- Work overtime as required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferred: OEM, Trade School, or 2+ years comparable experience in a related field/industry.
- Successful completion of Kodiak’s Short Service Employee (SSE) program, plus 1–2 years in an entry‑level Field Technician role.
- 3+ years total compression process, production, and equipment experience and/or training.
- Electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Core competencies:
teamwork, effective written and oral communication, analytical capability, strong mechanical aptitude, self‑motivation, initiative, planning and problem‑solving, customer focus. - Advanced knowledge of compressor packages and motor compressor mechanics (Waukesha, Ariel, Caterpillar, etc.).
- Knowledge of relevant HSE procedures and regulations.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR.
- Cat, Waukesha, and Ariel certifications preferred.
- Proficiency in English – reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
- Operate heavy equipment.
- Stand for up to 75% of the time; sit for up to 25%.
- Climb ladders or stairs to inspect, repair, and paint equipment; maintain balance without assistance.
- Communicate and respond to coworkers, customers, and emergency cues/alarms in person and on the telephone.
- Frequently lift at least 10 pounds; occasionally lift >50 lbs.
- Work in high‑noise environment (>85 dBA) with ear protection.
- Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Work outside in extreme heat and cold.
- Move and assume various positions (stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl) to accomplish tasks in confined spaces.
- Wear required PPE, including fire‑retardant clothing, hard hats, face shields, hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel‑toed boots.
