Job Description

PLEASE NOTE:

Purpose Statement: The job of Skilled Maintenance Crafts - HVAC is to maintain heating/air conditioning systems; assist in identifying repair/replacement needs; provide information on proper equipment use; ensure materials are available; and work with assigned workers. This role reports to the Department Lead / Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Essential Functions
  • Assists department supervisors and staff in making recommendations for effective and efficient maintenance planning.
  • Collaborates with department personnel to maximize workforce efficiency and meet shift requirements.
  • Diagnoses problems in HVAC/refrigeration systems to identify repair/replacement needs.
  • Estimates materials and equipment needed to complete work projects on time.
  • Fabricates and/or modifies material to ensure efficient operation of district equipment and facilities.
  • Installs heating/air conditioning/refrigeration equipment to provide comfort inside facilities.
  • Maintains tools and equipment to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Prepares documentation to provide written support and convey information.
  • Repairs a variety of items, systems, and components to ensure safe working condition.
  • Requests equipment and supplies to maintain inventory availability.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Transports a variety of items to ensure materials are available at job sites.
Other Functions
  • Assists other personnel as required to ensure an efficient work environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient unit functioning.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

Skills: Adhering to safety practices; handling hazardous materials; operating HVAC maintenance equipment; operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge: Algebra/geometry; reading manuals; writing documents; presenting information; safety practices and procedures; HVAC system programming, installation, maintenance, and servicing; relevant codes, policies, regulations, and laws.

Abilities: Scheduling activities; gathering, collating, and classifying data; using equipment; adapting to changing priorities; meeting deadlines; setting priorities; working as a team; working with detailed information; problem‑solving with equipment.

Responsibilities: Working under limited supervision; directing others within a small work unit; tracking budget expenditures; utilizing resources from other units if required.

Working Environment: Requires significant lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity; 5% sitting, 75% walking, 20% standing; exposure to temperature extremes and hazardous conditions.

Experience: Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility desired.

Education: Targeted job‑related education meeting prerequisite requirements.

Required Testing: None specified.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Driver’s License and Evidence of Insurability;
Refrigeration Recovery Certification (preferred);
State TLM‑H Electrical License (preferred);
Continuing Education/Training to maintain certifications.

Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background check.

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $24.89 to $27.19 per hour
