Orton Tutor – Part Time

Laughlin Children’s Center (The Center) is seeking a part-time Orton Gillingham Tutor to join our team! The Center’s mission is to empower children with the skills they need to be successful in life. The Center has a long tradition of offering multidisciplinary educational support to children from preschool through high school.

Reporting to the Academic Department Director, the Orton Gillingham Tutor will plan and provide multisensory instruction for clients identified with or suspected of having dyslexia. • Review students’ records upon assignment; meet with the Academic
• Department Director to discuss individual students’ needs as needed.
• Provide individualized instruction to a minimum of two students, with
• Dyslexia/Specific Learning Disability in Reading, 4 hours per week in-person or online when requested by clients. Typically schedule between the hours of 3:00-7:00 pm. Morning and early afternoon appointments will be scheduled when requested by clients
• Utilize the Orton Gillingham methodology of instruction following the Center’s curriculum sequence.
• Document instruction and progress regularly to compile a comprehensive progress report at the end of each term (school year and summer).
• Establish and maintain communication with parents, contact client families if unable to hold sessions on an assigned day.
• Collaborate with Academic Department Director on community outreach programs such as presentations for local organizations, screenings, and professional development.
• Attend in-service and/or department meetings as they are scheduled
• Perform all other duties, as assigned.

• PA Department of Education instructional certification required.
• Training in Orton Gillingham or Structured Literacy instruction required.
• Previous instructional experience is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information is a must.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
• Passion for working with children with disabilities.
• Knowledge of current research on reading instruction
• Ability to read, understand, analyze, and interpret educational evaluation documents.
• Strong organizational skills, self-initiative, and desire for ongoing learning.

• Orton Gillingham or Structured Literacy certification required.
• Pennsylvania Department of Education teaching certificate required.
• Federal Criminal History Check, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check,
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprinting required.

• Competitive compensation (range $40.00-$42.00) based on education and experience
• Flexible after school work schedule (3:00-7:00), Monday through Thursday
