Gillingham School is seeking a Design technician to start in September 2026. This could be either a full or part‑time position.
Term time only 39 weeks. Grade 5 SCP 5-6 - £22,104 - £22,455 annual salary pro rated pay award pending (based on 37 hours per week).
Responsibilities- Ability to use, maintain, and support workshop equipment, tools, materials, and CAD/CAM technology.
- Ensuring a safe working environment through risk assessments, equipment maintenance, and adherence to workshop safety procedures.
- Preparing materials for lessons, managing stock and equipment, and keeping workshops well‑organised and ready for teaching activities.
- Required from September, a SCHOOL TECHNICIAN in the Design department to prepare and maintain classrooms, workshops and materials for use by staff and pupils.
- Use of workshop environment, tools and equipment including circular saws and planer thicknessers.
- Ensure an orderly, safe, and healthy environment for teaching activities.
- Opportunity to work with individual students on project work if required.
Successful candidates would ideally be familiar with a workshop environment, having previous experience with tools and equipment.

The pro‑rated salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.
The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.
This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Keeping Children Safe in Education
Gillingham School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination a person who will not be on the appointment panel will conduct the search and will only share information if, and when, findings are relevant and of concern.
