Library Clerk (Part-Time) – Glace Bay Library
Hourly Rate: $18.86 per hour.
About the LibraryCape Breton Regional Library’s 11 branches serve the community by offering innovative programs, access to technology, and a wide range of lending services, including books, DVDs, recreational equipment, radon detectors, and eBooks. Our libraries are welcoming community spaces for residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds, and we recognize and respect the unique needs of individuals and communities.
Responsibilities- Provide customer service and circulation support, including checking out materials and registering patrons for library cards.
- Assist patrons in locating library materials and answering questions.
- Answer incoming phone calls and notify patrons of items ready for pickup.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to plan and deliver engaging programs and activities for children, youth, and adults.
- Assist with program preparation and room setup.
- Shelve and organize library materials.
- Schedule public computer bookings and provide basic technical assistance with printing and scanning.
- Promote library programs, services, and events.
- Open and close the library branch.
- Accept payments for printing and lost items.
21 hours per week. Schedule days may include evenings and Saturdays:
- Tuesday 4:00–8:00 p.m.
- Wednesday 4:00–8:00 p.m.
- Thursday 4:00–8:00 p.m.
- Friday 12:00–5:00 p.m.
- Saturday 1:00–5:00 p.m.
Note:
shifts may change depending on branch needs.
Working conditions include lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying books and other library materials.
Qualifications- A high school diploma or equivalent (additional education or experience is considered an asset).
- Experience working in a customer‑service environment with an inclusive and empathetic approach to serving the public.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public, peers, and supervisors.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Confidence using technology, including Windows‑based applications; additional technology skills are considered an asset.
- Willingness to develop new skills and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Experience delivering programs or workshops to various age groups is considered an asset.
A criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening will be required.
