Sr. MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) Engineering Design Engineer
Duration: 6-12 Months

100% Remote - PST Hours
Description
This role oversees the coordination of all engineering design tasks to support the project and provides updates to the Project Manager.
This project has been in progress for several years. Recent changes were made to the Project Manager and team structure that are unique to this project. Project status /task tracking has not been established. Overall project team is cross-functional across many departments.
High level overview of the team
Project team is cross-functional and consists of 20+ people. The focus for this role would be the engineering design workstream and coordinating the tasks, functions, tracking, reporting, etc…
Day in the life:
Daily interaction with the project team, virtual team meetings and individual check ins, tracking of tasks and status updates.
Top priorities over the first few weeks / months:
Getting up to speed on the project, understanding the cross-functional departments supporting the project and their roles, developing task tracking tools and methods, providing schedule forecasts and updates.
Responsibilities- Coordination of the Engineering Design workstream
- Facilitate and document technical decisions within the workstream
- Manages, tracks and communicates workstream prioritization of work – including MPLS work outside of the project that utilizes the same resources and processes (e.g., Evergreen, Tonquin, Coffee Creek, etc.)
- Responds to the MPLS project manager
- Overseen, reports to and internally directed by the Comm Engineering Manager
- Develops tracking methods and tools for engineering design work (both internal and external)
- Coordinates with other projects utilizing MPLS and MPLS resources
- Forecasts internal and external team schedules and resources, taking into account other PGE projects utilizing the same resource pool
- Coordinates design schedule updates with Project Controls and Project Manager
- Coordinates with other workstream leads on handoff and process flow of work
- Coordinates with other workstream leads to facilitate and document technical decisions for the project
- Tracks and shepherds tasks dependent on processes outside of engineering (MyService tickets with IT for firewall rule changes, cyber security reviews, etc…)
- Assists in organization and maintenance of engineering project documentation
- Candidate will ideally have both utility telecom and project organization skills.
- Experience deploying an MPLS network in a utility environment would be a plus.
