Job Description & How to Apply Below

Lusona is delighted to be partnering with a successful and growing UK-headquartered business to recruit a newly created Balance Sheet Accountant position based at its Glasgow head office.

With revenues exceeding £350m and operations spanning almost 200 locations across the UK, the business has recently undergone a significant ERP transformation, making this a particularly interesting role for someone who enjoys combining technical accounting, systems, process improvement and data analysis.

This organisation is based in Central Glasgow, offering a competitive salary of £45,000 - £50,000 per annum plus benefits. Applications are welcome from newly qualified or part-qualified accountants who are looking to develop within a progressive and supportive environment.

The Role

The primary focus of the position is the end-to-end management of the fixed asset accounting process and ownership of associated balance sheet controls. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy and control of a substantial fixed asset portfolio while helping to strengthen balance sheet governance across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of a fixed asset register exceeding £500m gross book value.
  • Managing the full asset lifecycle from acquisition through to disposal.
  • Investigating discrepancies, historical data issues and control gaps to ensure robust financial reporting.
  • Leading the monthly depreciation process and supporting a structured month-end close cycle.
  • Preparing and completing balance sheet reconciliations related to fixed assets and associated control accounts.
  • Acting as the key finance contact for depreciation movements and providing insightful analysis to the management reporting team.
  • Supporting internal and external audit requirements, including responding to queries and providing supporting documentation.
  • Assisting with IFRS 16 lease accounting activities while broadening knowledge and capability across the wider finance team.
  • Working closely with tax, operational and finance colleagues to ensure accurate asset reporting.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls and enhance the quality of financial data following a recent systems migration.
  • Supporting finance projects and wider balance sheet improvement initiatives as required.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a large, asset-intensive organisation where you'll take ownership of a key area of the balance sheet that has historically been managed across several teams.

The Candidate

Applications are welcomed from technically strong accountants who enjoy working with large data sets and complex balance sheet areas.

You will ideally possess:

  • ICAS, ACCA or equivalent qualification, although qualified by experience candidates will also be considered.
  • Previous experience within financial accounting, balance sheet control or fixed asset accounting.
  • Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • A sound understanding of FRS
    102, UK GAAP or IFRS.
  • Advanced Excel capability and confidence working within ERP environments.
  • A proactive mindset with a genuine interest in process improvement and controls.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across finance and operational teams.
What's on Offer

This opportunity offers the chance to join a highly successful, privately owned business during an exciting period of growth and transformation. The role provides significant visibility across the finance function, exposure to large-scale assets and systems, and the opportunity to shape an area of accounting responsibility that is becoming increasingly important within the organisation.

Benefits include:

  • 31 days annual leave plus buy/sell holiday scheme
  • Annual bonus
  • Discounted city-centre parking
