Job Purpose

Operating in a fast-moving, dynamic environment, the Consultancy Associate will contribute to a pipeline of new relationship opportunities for external engagement to drive value creation and business growth with stakeholders including industry, charities, government, and public bodies. They will provide a professional end-to-end support service to a broad range of University staff and external clients to efficiently evaluate, manage and secure consultancy engagements ensuring consistency with University policies and regulations.

The Consultancy Associate will use their commercial and project management skills to progress consultancy opportunities and manage a range of concurrent activities in support of the broader consultancy portfolio.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of consultancy projects throughout their lifecycle involving provision of a highly efficient, customer focused support service to evaluate, scope and price consultancy opportunities for staff and a wide range of external clients.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts on standard University template agreements, undertake risk and feasibility assessments ensuring consideration of reputational/ethical issues and mitigation of potential risks.
  • Contribute to Consultancy Services team targets, helping to shape and actively deliver the service’s strategic implementation plan.
  • Provide high level professional support, advice and guidance as a trusted partner for enquiries/issues relating to the consultancy portfolio, providing rapid resolution and authoritative guidance ensuring comprehensive support for all stakeholders.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and provide specialist data input to support portfolio reporting, provision of insights and data maintenance, including continual improvement of the consultancy data dashboard and portfolio management system., to inform strategic decision making.
  • Develop and build trusting relationships with diverse colleagues across the University community and partner services to identify, drive and actively manage a pipeline of consultancy opportunities, championing the benefits and impacts of consultancy and securing commitment to realise consultancy targets.
  • Prepare and deliver engagement activities, including presentations and consultancy training workshops to grow awareness of the Service and consultancy best-practice amongst the University community.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of the University’s associated policies, legal governance and financial regulations as well as a strong understanding of the academic capabilities and research objectives of each college.
  • Any other duties that arise from time to time as directed by the manager or nominee.
  • Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and experience Knowledge and qualifications Essential
    • A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level
      4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training) and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).
    • A2 Demonstrable understanding of consultancy and its strategic value in generating impact.
    • A3 Knowledge and understanding of data integrity and its importance.
    Desirable
    • B1 Demonstrable understanding of risk management and contractual matters in commercial settings.
    • B2 Knowledge of the pressures, constraints and risk/reward positions of academic staff, Colleges, and Institutions.
    Skills Essential
    • C1 Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and independently execute own varied workload to tight deadlines.
    • C2 High degree of numeracy with an excellent eye for detail and accuracy.
    • C3 Highly effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
