Want a front-row seat to some of the most important decisions shaping the future of the UK's energy system?
We're looking for an experienced Policy Principal to join Ofgem's Chief of Staff's Office, working directly with our CEO and Chair on the biggest policy challenges facing the organisation and the sector. This is a rare opportunity to operate at the heart of decision-making and influence how Ofgem responds to the opportunities and challenges of the energy transition. The role provides policy advice, challenge, coordination and delivery support to the CEO and Chair on major organisational and regulatory priorities.
You'll act as a trusted adviser and critical friend, testing policy thinking, challenging assumptions, identifying risks and trade-offs, and helping ensure Ofgem's most important programmes are robust and aligned with leadership priorities. You'll also play a key role in unblocking complex issues, coordinating action across teams and maintaining momentum on high-profile strategic priorities.
This is an incredibly influential role within a dynamic, intellectually curious team that works on high-stakes issues with visibility across the organisation. You'll work closely with senior leaders and gain unique insight into how decisions are made at the highest levels of a regulator at the centre of the UK's energy transition.
We're particularly interested in hearing from candidates with strong energy sector expertise and experience gained in:
- Government and policy roles
- Regulatory organisations
- Energy companies
- Strategic consultancy
- Executive or CEO office environments
This role is an exceptional career-development opportunity. You'll build deep understanding of the energy sector, government priorities and organisational leadership while working directly with the CEO and Chair of an organisation of over 2,500 colleagues.
If you're looking for a role that combines strategic influence, complex policy challenges and real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
Why join Ofgem?Alongside your salary, you'll benefit from a generous Civil Service pension, with Ofgem. You'll also enjoy up to 30 days' annual leave, excellent learning and development opportunities, flexible and hybrid working, family-friendly policies, and the chance to work with passionate colleagues on some of the UK's most important energy challenges.
Ofgem relies on having a workforce that reflects the society we serve, so we welcome candidates from all backgrounds, and especially those from underrepresented groups. Join us and play a key role in delivering a greener, fairer energy system while building a rewarding and meaningful career.
Successful candidates may be based in any of our office locations – Cardiff, Glasgow, or London. Candidates should be aware that the role involves a significant and ongoing requirement to work from the London office, and this should be considered before applying.
