About The Role

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to support the successful delivery of projects across the Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) framework throughout the Central Belt of Scotland
.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing commercial team delivering critical energy infrastructure projects that help support the UK's transition to a low-carbon future. Based from our Motherwell office
, you’ll work closely with operational teams across a portfolio of overhead line, substation, and power transmission projects.

As a Quantity Surveyor
, you will be responsible for managing project costs, maximising value, and supporting the commercial delivery of multiple schemes. You’ll also play a key role in supply chain management, contract administration, cost reporting, and identifying commercial opportunities and risks.

This role would suit an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is either chartered or working towards professional accreditation with a recognised body such as RICS
, ICES
, or CIOB
.

• Managing all commercial aspects of assigned projects from inception through to final account.
• Producing accurate cost forecasts, cost value reconciliations, and financial reports.
• Administering NEC contracts and supporting contract compliance.
• Procuring, managing, and developing relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Measuring and valuing works in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Preparing and reviewing Bills of Quantities, schedules of rates, and estimates.
• Supporting the management of change control, compensation events, and commercial risk.
• Reviewing project programmes and understanding the commercial impact of delays and disruptions.
• Ensuring compliance with Balfour Beatty governance procedures, systems, and commercial best practice.
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team where required.
• Building strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.

• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or equivalent.
• Experience working within a Quantity Surveyor position within the construction, civil engineering, or utilities sector.
• Knowledge and experience of NEC contracts.
• Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across project locations.

• Experience working on power, utilities, transmission, distribution, infrastructure, or major project environments.
• Chartered status or actively working towards professional accreditation (RICS/CIOB/ICES).
• Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain partners.
