You will be a proactive and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor with experience managing subcontract trade packages and construction projects from procurement through to final account. Confident working across both office and site environments, you'll have strong commercial and contractual knowledge, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to build effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project teams.

The ideal candidate will be able to manage multiple priorities, take ownership of project outcomes, and provide valuable support to operational teams throughout the project lifecycle. You'll also be a collaborative team player who is committed to maintaining high standards, developing your professional expertise, and supporting the growth of Trainee and Assistant Quantity Surveyors through coaching and mentoring. Above all, you'll be driven to deliver successful project outcomes while contributing positively to the wider team and business.

What

You’ll Do
  • Manage a range of subcontract trade packages, from groundwork and piling through to finishing trades and M&E works, ensuring successful delivery from procurement to final account.
  • Take ownership of projects and work packages valued up to £3m, managing commercial performance and project outcomes.
  • Attend and contribute to internal project meetings, client meetings, and wider stakeholder discussions.
  • Provide commercial and contractual support to operational teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate project records, ensuring all correspondence and documentation is correctly filed within company systems.
  • Carry out day-to-day commercial administration across both office and site-based activities.
  • Support site construction teams during the delivery phase, helping to resolve commercial and contractual matters as they arise.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Mentor and support Trainee and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, contributing to their professional development.
  • Continuously develop your own skills and knowledge while adhering to company policies, procedures, and industry best practice.
  • Contribute flexibly to the wider team, taking on additional responsibilities as required to support business and project needs.
What You’ll Bring
  • Strong estimating experience in the construction industry, ideally across multiple sectors, including midrise residential apartments
  • Excellent understanding of subcontract procurement, tender processes, and estimating software (e.g. Conquest, Bluebeam, Cost X etc).
  • Able to confidently analyse drawings, specs, contracts and financial data.
  • Comfortable managing and prioritising multiple tenders.
  • Experience with JCT contracts.
  • A commercial mindset and solid negotiating skills.
  • Capable of presenting to clients and senior leadership teams.
  • Strong understanding of submission requirements, with the ability to plan and execute a logical sequence of actions to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to assemble estimates using estimating software and/or manual methods, supported by appropriate IT skills.
  • Sound construction knowledge, with the ability to research, assess, and appraise the viability of alternative solutions.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrates an appropriate level of presentation skills.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, and work effectively with others.
