An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Programme Lead for the BSc in Oral Health Science course, based within Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. This post will have an integral role in the School of Dental Hygiene Therapy by leading and developing the dental hygienist/therapist work stream within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in conjunction with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSDS) - formerly known as NES.

This work will contribute to the delivery of ministerial commitments to increasing training of Dental Therapists. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the education and training meets the General Dental Council (GDC) and University quality assurance standards. The post will have strategic leadership function in relation to this national initiative covering the NHS Scotland workforce in dentistry and contribute to long term planning in this area.

The post holder will work across both academia (GCU) and operational activities (NHS Scotland) in the provision of both learning and in identifying practical learning environments.

The academia aspects will revolve around the provision of a 3-year General Dental Council (GDC) approved course in Oral Health Sciences involving Lecturers and support staff. In NHS Scotland, the clinical education provision will be through practical placements, mainly at Glasgow Dental Hospital and a number of clinical outreach centres. This will allow provision of high-quality dental hygiene therapy patient services.

The post holder must hold current registration with the GDC, a Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Oral Health Sciences Evidence of achievement at post graduate level of study and a Higher education teaching qualification and/or recognition as Senior Fellow, Fellow, or Associate Fellow of the HEA.
