The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tutor within the BSc in Oral Health Science programme, based at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. The post holder will play an integral role in the School of Dental Hygiene & Therapy by teaching, assessing and developing the dental hygienist/therapist workstream within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, working in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSDS).

The role contributes to the delivery of ministerial commitments to increase the training of Dental Therapists and supports the delivery of a General Dental Council (GDC) approved Oral Health Sciences programme.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Full-time

Shift pattern
- Monday
- Friday 7.2 hours per day

Base location
- Glasgow Dental Hospital and School

Key responsibilities:
  • Teach, assess and develop the dental hygienist/therapist workstream.
  • Ensure education and training programmes meet General Dental Council (GDC) and University quality assurance standards.
  • Support students in acquiring the knowledge and skills required within the Scope of Practice of a Dental Hygienist/Therapist.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a 3-year GDC-approved BSc Oral Health Sciences programme.
  • Work collaboratively with lecturers, support staff, NHS colleagues and partner organisations.
  • Provide and supervise learning in both academic and clinical environments.
  • Support high-quality dental hygiene and therapy patient services through clinical education placements.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
  • Current registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Oral Health Sciences, Dental Hygiene and Therapy, or a related field.
  • Evidence of teaching experience.
Desirable
  • Achievement at postgraduate level study.
  • A Higher Education teaching qualification.
Knowledge Requirements
  • Understanding of GDC standards and quality assurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of the Dental Hygienist/Therapist scope of practice.
  • Ability to support both theoretical learning and practical clinical training.
