Job Description & How to Apply Below

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday with weekend and on call/overnight work pattern

We are seeking applications for the position of Respiratory Consultant to join our multidisciplinary team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) and Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital (SACH). This is a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality consultant care in both in-patient and out-patient settings, with responsibilities that include acute medical receiving, participating in the medical specialties consultant on-call rota, and providing weekend ward cover.

You will also have the chance to lead sub-specialty outpatient clinics, focusing on complex asthma and supporting our innovative virtual lung cancer service.

This role offers the chance to contribute to a modern, consultant-led service within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC), one of the UK’s largest and most progressive Health Boards. You will work alongside specialist colleagues in a dynamic environment, helping to shape the future of respiratory care and patient pathways across our region.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration and a licence to practise. UK-trained candidates should provide evidence of training leading to CCT or CESR eligibility, or be within six months of their expected completion date at the time of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. A valid driving licence is preferred.

NHS GGC offers:

  • A supportive environment for professional development and research opportunities
  • Access to state-of-the‑art facilities and a wide range of specialist colleagues
  • Active involvement in service improvement and the development of consultant‑led pathways
  • Opportunities to contribute to teaching, training, and quality improvement initiatives

If you are passionate about advancing respiratory medicine and keen to make a real impact within NHS GGC, we would love to hear from you.
